چکیده

Abstract A shearing-to-squeezing transition process for bubble formation in a T-junction was reported using microscopy and digital image technology. The investigations were conducted polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) T-junction. According to the aspect ratio of air slug generation frequency, bubbles generated microchannel identified three types, namely dispersed bubble, short-slug long-slug bubble. corresponding modes as shearing, squeezing modes, respectively. Additionally, microbubble size frequency with various gas pressures velocity liquid flows each mode investigated. relevant dimensional arguments performed characterize new scaling law, based on mechanisms, proposed predict microbubbles showed good agreement experimental results.

SHORT COMMUNICATION Correlations of droplet formation in T-junction microfluidic devices: from squeezing to dripping

In this work, we have systematically analyzed the scaling law of droplet formation by cross-flow shear method in T-junction microfluidic devices. The droplet formation mechanisms can be distinguished by the capillary number for the continuous phase (Cac), which are the squeezing regime (Cac \ 0.002), dripping regime (0.01 \ Cac \ 0.3), and the transient regime (0.002 \ Cac\ 0.01). Three corresp...

Lattice Boltzmann simulations of bubble formation in a microfluidic T-junction.

A lattice Boltzmann equation method based on the Cahn-Hilliard diffuse interface theory is developed to investigate the bubble formation process in a microchannel with T-junction mixing geometry. The bubble formation process has different regimes, namely, squeezing, dripping and jetting regimes, which correspond to the primary forces acting on the system. Transition from regime to regime is gen...

Effective pressure and bubble generation in a microfluidic T-junction.

To improve the existing trial-and-error process in designing a microfluidic T-junction, a systematic study of the geometrical (mainly the channel length) effects on the generated bubbly/slug flow was conducted to figure out basic design guidelines based on experimental and theoretical analyses. A driving system with dual constant pressure sources, instead of the commonly used dual constant volu...

Bubble formation on a single orifice in a gas solid fluidized bed using digital image analysis

Digital Image Analysis (DIA) has been employed to characterize the time evolution of a bubble injected from a single orifice into a pseudo 2-dimansional gas-solid fluidized bed. The injected bubble diameter increased with the square root of time before detachment. During bubble free flight in the bed, its diameter remains approximately constant. The center of mass of the bubble increases with t...
